Rare Acura NSX Type S Sells for Record Amount
The hybrid version of the NSX failed to replicate the success of the original, but auction results indicate high demand for the limited-edition Type S. After a recent sale of a yellow unit for $32,000 above the starting price, another car broke this record.
This Type S model had a factory price of $169,500, but with additional options, including a lightweight carbon package for $13,000, the owner spent $188,495. Despite having 1,400 miles on the odometer, the car was sold for $250,000, confirming its collector’s value.
Technical Features
The Type S version features a more aggressive design, a carbon hood, and improved aerodynamics. Under the hood is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 and three electric motors, which together produce 600 hp. While the interior remains typical for Acura, the use of leather and Alcantara adds a premium touch.
A price of a quarter-million dollars may seem excessive, but for brand enthusiasts, it’s a fair value for one of the last Acura sports cars with hybrid technology. Similar auction results may later influence the market value of other NSX Type S units.
