Rare Lamborghini Diablo That Wasn’t Even Produced by the Company Finally Put Up for Sale

A Car for True Connoisseurs

Although supercars are often aimed at the wealthiest buyers, among the large number of models, this particular Lamborghini Diablo Evolution GTR can be called a car for true connoisseurs. The Diablo was always a bold car that managed to become a worthy successor to the legendary Countach. It was one of the few production cars of its time capable of breaking the 200 mph (320 km/h) barrier.

Swiss Project

Roland Affolter, the official Lamborghini importer in Switzerland, ordered this and nine other cars with the same Evolution GTR designation. This example has a Viola purple paint job, a blue interior with Alcantara, and an odometer reading of 21,017 miles (33,824 km). Although the engine remained unchanged – the classic 5.7-liter V12 producing 485 hp with a five-speed manual transmission – it is the exterior and interior that make the EVO GTR special.

Aerodynamic Improvements

Affolter focused on improving aerodynamics. The sharp angles of the regular Diablo were softened, new fixed headlights appeared instead of pop-up ones, and round fog lights replaced the square ones. The car received a wind deflector on the roof, a large air intake on the hood, powerful exhaust vents behind the front wheels, and a more streamlined rear bumper. The giant spoiler has three adjustable positions, and the wheels are unique three-piece units.

A Unique Auction Lot

This rare example will be sold at the Broad Auction on November 1st in Zurich. The estimated price is nearly $600,000. Given the growing popularity of rare Diablo models, this amount could be even higher. For those who have half a million dollars and a taste for excess in the form of a purple V12, this Diablo Evolution GTR is ready to turn an ordinary garage into a pilgrimage site for car enthusiasts.

A price of half a million dollars for a decades-old car might seem excessive, but the collector car market has shown steady price growth for unique specimens in recent years. The limited production run of ten units makes this model not only an investment object but also a piece of automotive history, which over time only increases its value. Such auctions often become an indicator of trends in the world of collecting, where rarity and history are sometimes valued higher than technical specifications.
