Former FBI agent warns of possible Russian influence on Musk
The status of being one of the wealthiest and most influential people in the world has its advantages but also makes Musk a target for various forces. Former FBI agent Jonathan Buma claims that Russia attempted to influence the businessman through his inner circle. Although details remain unknown, Buma emphasizes that the threat was real.
According to his words, Russian agents could have infiltrated Musk’s close circle to gain access to him.
“These efforts were intense and prolonged,” Buma noted.
At the same time, he stressed that Musk himself was not under official investigation.
Suspicious connections and reaction
In 2022, media reported about Russian advisor Igor Kurganov, who allegedly gained significant influence over Musk’s financial decisions. Although Kurganov was later removed from his position, this story drew the FBI’s attention. Separately, rumors emerged about Musk’s contacts with Putin, which the businessman himself denies.
Musk’s political activity, especially his ties with former U.S. President Trump, adds complexity to the situation. This affects not only his personal reputation but also his business, particularly Tesla, which is already facing declining sales due to public reaction to the founder’s actions.
Although there is no evidence of Musk’s compromise, his global influence through SpaceX and other companies makes him a potential target for geopolitical games. Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, the issue of big business interacting with authoritarian regimes becomes particularly acute, which may have long-term consequences for all parties involved.
