Russian BMW factory workers were offered to pick strawberries instead of assembling cars

The employees of the Russian ‘Avtotor’ plant, who were sent on unpaid leave, were offered to ‘temporarily work in the fields and construction’.

As reported by the local publication 5Kolesso, ‘The further production of cars at the Kaliningrad ‘Avtotor’ plant is in question – due to the lack of components, the plant is idle. When the situation will improve is unclear. However, positive developments are clearly not foreseen, as instead of assembling cars, the employees of the car factory are being offered to pick… strawberries this summer!’

Even the payment (piece rate) is known – 25 rubles per kilogram of berries. In July-August, it will be possible to pick blueberries, which are paid higher – 45-50 rubles per kilogram. Alternatively, it is also suggested to work as a laborer at the construction site of the ‘Avtotor-Park’ residential complex.

Let us remind you, until recently (before the war in Ukraine started) the ‘Avtotor’ plant was producing passenger cars of well-known global brands (BMW, KIA, Hyundai). In May, however, they were offered to plant potatoes instead at Russia’s largest car factory. What can be said, #dig-and-plant.
