It seems that soon only very wealthy people might buy new cars in showrooms. And even that is not a given, as recently on Ukrainian roads, you can increasingly see fresh and very expensive cars on Euro plates.
According to AUTO-Consulting, in September, the import of cars on “Euro plates” to Ukraine experienced a real boom. Compared to August, the “number of ‘Euroblechs’ on the Ukrainian market increased by 35% and reached 11.5 thousand units. This is more than the official import of cars under reduced excise duty rates.
Furthermore, cars on “Euro plates” increased their market influence over the month. A month ago, they accounted for 19% of the Ukrainian used car market, while in September it was already 19.8%.
During the same period, the import of used cars to Ukraine amounted to 10.7 thousand vehicles, which is 93% more than the previous year.
The domestic car resale market amounted to 42.5 thousand units, which is 8% more than the previous year. The only segment of the Ukrainian car market that declined in September was the market for new cars.
Their volume amounted to 6.3 thousand units, which is 17% less than in September 2017. The conclusion: the two most rapidly growing segments in Ukraine are the market for illegal cars on “Euroblechs” and the legal import of cars at reduced excise duties.
