The Swedish company Saab, which car enthusiasts remember well for its original and reliable cars, may now return to Ukraine in a completely different role. Once, these elegant and recognizable sedans and coupes were often seen on our roads—with their characteristic aviation-inspired design, turbocharged engines, and the unique feel of Swedish engineering spirit. Now, Saab is becoming part of Ukrainian reality again, but not on the asphalt, but in the sky.
The company plans to open a plant in Ukraine where the final assembly of the JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets will take place. This project will be an important step in the cooperation between Ukraine and Sweden in the field of defense, as well as a symbol of the technological partnership between the two countries. The Gripen is a modern multi-role fighter aircraft, known for its maneuverability, cost-effectiveness, and ability to operate even from short runways.
For Ukraine, this is not just a purchase of aviation equipment, but a real opportunity to develop its own defense-industrial potential. The Saab production facility could create new jobs, attract engineers and technologists, and strengthen our country’s position on the world aviation map.
It is symbolic that the brand, which once provided Ukrainians with safety and comfort on the roads, may now ensure protection in the sky. Saab is returning—but this time, the sound of its engines will be heard not on the highways, but above them.
