Homemade Soviet sports car became a star of European retro-show en

A retro car exhibition is taking place in Florence these days. One of its most interesting participants is the unique Soviet roadster ‘Leningrad’ from 1953.

We have already told you about this extremely rare car. It was created as a one-off by self-taught designer Arkady Babich based on the ZIM.

The roadster with a 3.5-liter 90-horsepower six-cylinder engine reached 180 km/h, and in 1959 its creator drove it from Simferopol to Leningrad (which is over 2000 km) in just 20 hours.

Then, the car disappeared for decades, but in 2014 it was found in a very deplorable state – only a heap of metal remained. Nevertheless, Latvian craftsmen managed to restore the ‘Leningrad’ using old photos and videos.
