The agency J.D. Power published its traditional car quality ranking. Americans studied the reliability of cars up to three years old.
As before, the research method is a survey of car owners, with the main evaluation criterion being the number of breakdowns per 100 cars. The results turned out to be quite unexpected.
The leader was Genesis: Hyundai’s premium brand pushed the longtime leader Lexus to second place. Buick unexpectedly came third, and rounding out the top five are Porsche and Toyota. The worst were Land Rover, Chrysler, Jaguar, Volvo, and GMC.
The most reliable cars by class were also named:
Small class – Honda Fit (Jazz), Chevrolet Sonic (Aveo), and Chevrolet Bolt
Small premium class – BMW 2 Series and BMW i3
Compact class – Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Cruze, and Toyota Corolla
Compact premium class – Lexus ES, BMW 4-series, and Lexus IS
Compact sports cars – Mazda MX-5 and MINI Cooper
Midsize cars – Buick Regal (Opel Insignia), VW Passat, and Toyota Camry
Midsize sports cars – Ford Mustang
Midsize premium class – Genesis G80, Audi A7, and Audi A6
Full-size class – Toyota Avalon, Buick LaCrosse, and Chevrolet Impala
Minivans – Toyota Sienna and Dodge Grand Caravan
