Renault has announced a new C-segment crossover named Boreal. It will be available in more than 70 markets outside Europe. This car could be a rebadged version of the Dacia Bigster. Renault announced that its upcoming C-segment crossover will be introduced in the coming months under the name Boreal. It is planned to be launched in more than 70 markets outside Europe, with the first launch taking place in Latin America.
Positioned as an important milestone for the company, the Boreal follows the Kardian, which was introduced at the end of 2023. At this point, the company has little to say about the model but stated that it “illustrates the brand’s fresh global ambition” and their “transition into the premium segment.”
The debut will take place in Brazil, and the company noted that they carefully considered the crossover’s name. As explained by company representatives, the name derives from Boreas, who was the god of wind in Greek mythology. Additionally, the name comes from the “north wind” in Latin. Renault’s naming manager, Silvia dos Santos, said this is a fitting choice for the crossover’s name, as it gives it strength and “a design that elevates status.” She added that it evokes the aurora borealis, better known as the Northern Lights.
In conclusion, the company said the name “perfectly embodies the values embedded in this crossover: technology, status, and comfort.” It was also stated that the Boreal is “unprecedented in the lineup” and will be “an invitation to escape and discover endless horizons.”
Soon, rumors suggest that the Boreal could be a rebadged version. This is unsurprising, as the aforementioned Kardian was a lightly modified version of the Dacia Sandero. If this happens, the Boreal can be expected to be an affordable crossover with rugged design and a minimalist interior featuring a 10.1-inch infotainment system, as well as a 7- or 10-inch digital instrument panel. The European model also offers a range of engines from a 1.2-liter three-cylinder mild hybrid with 128 hp (96 kW / 130 hp) to a full hybrid version with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and 153 hp (115 kW / 155 hp).
