Ineos Grenadier Retro Restyling Inspired by Classic Defenders
The Chelsea Truck Company atelier has presented a special version of the Ineos Grenadier off-roader, which received a retro look inspired by old Land Rover Defender models. This project, part of the “Heritage Remastered” program, makes the connection between the modern successor and its legendary predecessor even more obvious.
Exterior Details and Nods to Land Rover Heritage
The most noticeable changes were the exterior elements. The car received paint in a green shade reminiscent of the Grasmere Green from the limited edition 2015 Land Rover Defender Heritage Edition. The roof is finished in white. The package is complemented by 20-inch alloy wheels styled to resemble old-fashioned steel ones, wheel arch extensions, and special metal bumpers.
The front end of the Grenadier was also redesigned: a Lattice Mesh radiator grille, inspired by early 1940s Land Rovers, was installed. The redesigned nose hides additional LED lights behind the mesh, painted in the body color, and also received new headlight trims.
Second Version and Interior
In addition to the green version, Chelsea Truck Company built another Grenadier in the “Heritage Remastered” style. This model is based on the Fieldmaster Edition Wagon version and mimics the style of the limited edition 2008 Defender 110 SVX, released for the brand’s 60th anniversary. The off-roader is painted Inky Black, and the grille, bumpers, door hinges, and wheels received a Volcanic Satin Silver finish. The interior uses Old English Tan leather with quilted and perforated details.
Technical Part Remained Unchanged
Mechanically, both versions remained untouched. Under the hood, as before, works a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine from BMW. In the black model, this is the B58 gasoline unit, producing 282 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Cost of Nostalgia and Alternatives
The “Heritage Remastered” version, presented in the Project Kahn showroom, costs £79,999. For comparison, the standard Ineos Grenadier Station Wagon Fieldmaster Edition starts from £69,995. Thus, the premium for retro styling and special trim is about £10,000. For those who prefer the Grenadier without explicit references to Land Rover, Chelsea Truck Company offers a wide range of other custom modifications for this platform.
This project clearly demonstrates the trend in the tuning and special editions market, where value is created not only by technical improvements but also by an emotional connection with automotive history. Transforming a modern, technologically advanced off-roader into a symbol of a past era can be even more significant for buyers than increasing power. Such projects extend the model’s life cycle, offering its fans a unique product that cannot be found in the manufacturer’s official catalogs.
