Corvette Chief Firmly Denies Electric Car Rumors with Blunt Statement

GM Confirms: The Next Corvette Will Not Be Electric

Despite rumors of a fully electric or hybrid version, the next generation of the Chevrolet Corvette will retain the classic V8. Tony Roma, Chief Engineer at GM, stated that the brand does not plan to abandon the traditional engine in favor of electricity. He emphasized that a true sports car must remain exciting to drive, not just fast.

“Our cars will become electric only when electricity surpasses what we have now. And for now, we continue to do what we do,” Roma noted.

Hybrid – Yes, But Without Unnecessary Complications

The company is considering hybrid solutions but rejects the idea of plug-in hybrids due to their complexity and weight. Instead, the Corvette E-Ray uses a system that automatically charges the battery while driving, preserving driving simplicity. Roma compared this to competitors where drivers have to “play games” with charging modes.

The next generation of the Corvette (C9) is expected to appear around 2029. Although details remain unknown, GM promises that the model will continue to improve while preserving its essence. For now, the company is preparing new updates for the current C8, which will take its performance to a new level.

The recent years have been challenging for automakers due to increasing pressure to transition to more eco-friendly technologies. However, GM demonstrates that for iconic models like the Corvette, it is important to balance innovation with what makes this car unique. Their approach is not a rejection of the future, but a search for a path that will not betray the brand’s history.
