The Mercedes-AMG division is actively developing its electric strategy, preparing to launch three new fully electric models. Among them, the electric GT sedan and a powerful SUV are already known, while the third model remains a secret for now. It is expected that all of them will receive special acoustic effects, such as simulated internal combustion engine sounds and virtual gear shifting.
The Brand’s Two-Pronged Strategy
Mercedes-AMG is not just updating its approach to high technology but fundamentally changing it by implementing a two-pronged strategy. On one hand, the brand is returning to larger-displacement engines, expanding its lineup with inline-six and V8 units. On the other hand, the company is investing heavily in electrification, planning to release three unique electric vehicles in the coming years.
The First Electric AMG Novelties
The first of these models will be the fully electric four-door AMG GT, a concept of which named AMG GT XX was presented last year. It will be followed by a high-performance electric SUV, whose power is expected to exceed 1000 hp. A coupe version of this off-roader is already under development, and, according to Mercedes-AMG representatives, its presentation should take place by the end of 2027.
Mercedes-AMG CEO Michael Schiebe confirmed this information in a recent interview. Although he did not reveal specific technical details about the coupe-SUV, there is every reason to believe that its technical underpinnings will be very close to the standard SUV, differing only in a more streamlined roofline.
Design and Architecture
Interestingly, recent spy photos of the regular electric AMG SUV show that it already has a quite low and squat form, not too dissimilar from the Lamborghini Urus, unlike more “tall” SUVs like the Bentley Bentayga. If AMG makes the coupe version even more sloped, in its proportions it could look as dramatic as the Ferrari Purosangue.
However, the key selling point for the SUV coupe version will not be design. Like the standard SUV and the four-door GT, the third special AMG electric vehicle will be built on the unique AMG.EA architecture using three axial-flux Yasa motors.

Extraordinary Power
Versions with both two and three electric motors are expected. The flagship model could potentially deliver up to 1341 hp, or one megawatt of power. This will allow it to easily outpace traditional internal combustion engine SUVs and possibly become one of the fastest on the market.
Driving Experience
The question of whether any of the two SUV models or the four-door GT can provide the same driving pleasure as traditional AMG V8s remains open. In an attempt to make its electric cars more exciting, AMG will add artificial acoustics that simulate ICE sounds, as well as a virtual gear-shifting effect, similar to the one first introduced by the Hyundai N division.
The expansion of the electric portfolio indicates a deep transformation of the brand, which is trying to preserve its sporting DNA in the era of electromobility. The emphasis on power exceeding one megawatt and special acoustic solutions show that engineers aim to compensate for the lack of a traditional engine not only with technical characteristics but also with an emotional component. The success of this strategy will largely depend on how successfully the new technologies can be integrated with that unique driving feel for which AMG cars are loved.
