Another Gasoline Sports Car Disappears to Make Way for an Electric One

The End of an Era for the Legendary Sports Car

Lightweight, relatively affordable, mid-engine sports cars are a rarity today, but the Alpine A110 has been serving enthusiasts since 2017. However, its time is running out, as the French automaker has announced the production launch of the final models.

Final Production Run at the Dieppe Plant

The Alpine Dieppe Jean Rédélé plant will manufacture only 1,750 additional cars, including 50 units of the extreme A110 R 70 version. Production is scheduled to be completed by mid-2026, by which time nearly 30,000 second-generation A110s will have been built.

The Model’s Electric Future

While it’s sad to see this car go, it will not be the end of the A110 story. On the contrary, the third-generation model will be introduced as early as next year. It will be built on an all-new Alpine High Performance Electric Platform (APP) and will become a “true electric sports car”.

Current Models and Their Specifications

Currently, Alpine offers the A110, A110 GTS, and A110 R 70 models. The base coupe starts from €66,900 in France and is equipped with a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine producing 248 hp (185 kW / 252 PS) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque.

It is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission, allowing the 2,429 lb (1,102 kg) coupe to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds.

Enhanced GTS and R 70 Versions

The €79,900 A110 GTS model features an upgraded engine producing 296 hp (221 kW / 300 PS) and 251 lb-ft (340 Nm) of torque. This reduces the 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration time to 4.2 seconds, while the top speed increases to 170 mph (274 km/h).

Buyers also get a sportier suspension, an active sports exhaust system, and 18-inch forged wheels.

At the top of the lineup is the €122,900 A110 R 70, which celebrates the brand’s 70th anniversary. It is limited to 770 units and features a number of carbon fiber components, including the hood, roof, wheels, and rear spoiler.

The transition to the electric A110 version is occurring at a time when automakers worldwide are investing in eco-friendly technologies. Alpine is demonstrating that even in the era of electrification, it is possible to preserve the sporting spirit and dynamic performance that made the original model so popular among car enthusiasts. This step also reflects the growing market demands for reducing the carbon footprint in the automotive industry.
