Prototype of the updated Mercedes-Maybach GLS spotted during testing
Despite electric SUVs occupying the main news stories, significant updates are happening in other Mercedes models. The new GLC with EQ Technology recently debuted at the auto show in Munich, receiving a light grille. However, not all future models of the brand, including the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, will have similar updates.
Unique Maybach radiator grille design
Vertical grille slats remain a signature feature of Maybach, unlike the standard GLS models, which, according to observations, will receive more traditional horizontal bars. The new Maybach grille has a heart-like shape with narrower sides, making its lower edge shorter. On top, as before, the Maybach logo is placed in a notch-like design, similar to the iPhone design.
Updates to lighting technology and tech
Besides the grille, the updated model will receive star-shaped daytime running lights at the front and, presumably, corresponding LED taillights at the rear. These elements are already present on other Mercedes models, such as the GLC with EQ Technology. Although the rear lights are not yet installed on the prototype, the lack of camouflage indicates that they will appear later.
The interior will also undergo updates: the installation of a wide digital panel stretching from pillar to pillar is expected. Changes to the powertrain are also possible—the 542 hp V8 engine may be upgraded for improved performance. Along with this, the model’s price, which is currently around $180,000, will undoubtedly increase.
The update of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS demonstrates that the brand continues to balance between innovation and classic design elements. This model will likely retain its exclusivity thanks to unique details like the vertical grille, even in a world where electrification is becoming increasingly dominant. The release of the updated version is expected by the end of 2025 or early 2026.
