The most popular iPhones are basic models every year

Analysts from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners have come to this conclusion, a company that studies the market and consumer behavior. Their annual analytical report on Apple confirmed the audience’s highest interest in the brand’s basic models, but at the same time noted an increase in popularity of the Plus models.
Size matters

According to the statistics provided, over the past three years, iPhone owners have become more interested in Plus models in percentage terms. One of the reasons is the market trend – new flagship smartphones are getting bigger. The focus is shifting towards multimedia and entertainment. For example, if mobile games have long been a separate category, now mobile devices have also captured the gambling industry, so players choose legal bookmakers in Ukraine and online casinos specifically for mobile gaming.

Among the entire range of devices, about 13% of consumers choose the Plus versions, although in 2023 this figure was 2% lower. The consumer core still consists of an audience interested in a balanced set of features in basic models, but despite its strong position, the average indicator is decreasing:

  • 46% in 2022;
  • 43% in 2023;
  • 42% in 2024.

At the same time, the popularity of the iPhone in the highest configuration (Pro Max) remains stable, accounting for about 20% of the total number of consumers.

Key selection factors

Of course, the key reason for choosing the basic iPhone model for most consumers is the noticeable price difference. Basic models cost less than Pro or Pro Max, but offer the same basic features: a fast processor, a reliable operating system, and long battery life.

Their popularity also indicates a preference for balanced sizes, while the interest in Plus models is based on specific tasks that the chosen device should solve in the multimedia field – large screens provide more comfortable viewing of videos, movies, series, and streams. Ultimately, a larger smartphone usually offers a larger battery, providing longer operating time without recharging.

The absence of compact iPhones in the ranking once again reminds of the current trend in the smartphone market – changing user preferences towards larger models has gradually become the norm, so market leaders are increasingly trying to occupy this niche. The popularity of enlarged iPhone models is due to a combination of aesthetic, technological, and functional advantages. They better meet the needs of modern users who use smartphones not only for communication but also for work, entertainment, and creativity.
