Something Sinister is Being Prepared by Toyota Gazoo Racing

Toyota GR010 Hybrid Update

Toyota has released official teasers of the updated version of the GR010 Hybrid hypercar. The new model will feature a redesigned aerodynamic package that gives its exterior a more aggressive look. Testing of the car is already scheduled for next week at the Paul Ricard circuit in France.

Update Goal

Toyota aims to reclaim its leading position in the world of endurance racing, particularly at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Between 2018 and 2022, the team dominated, winning five consecutive victories, but in 2023, 2024, and 2025, Ferrari celebrated the win. The GR010 Hybrid update is intended to be a response to this trend.

External Changes

The teaser demonstrates a number of visual updates. In particular, horizontally positioned LED headlights, reminiscent of the design of Toyota’s road models, are installed at the front, as well as integrated ventilation holes. The rear is equipped with a full-width LED strip, similar to the one installed on the GR Yaris, and a redesigned rear wing.

Technical Features

The GR010 Hybrid debuted in 2021 as the successor to the TS050 Hybrid model. According to the WEC hypercar regulations, the car has a limited number of opportunities for modifications during the homologation cycle. Some of these opportunities were already used in 2023, and the rest are likely applied for the current update. Questions regarding changes to the hybrid powertrain, which includes a bi-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine and a front electric motor, remain open. The total system power is limited to 671 hp.

We are working on presenting the evolution for next year. In early October, we will test the car with the new aerodynamic package for the first time. As a team, we are working together and continuing preparations with the firm intention of winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year. Honestly, we considered this development last year and even thought about launching it this year, but partly due to a change in the location of the aerodynamic tunnel for homologation, we decided to postpone it for a year.

Testing Plans

Testing of the updated hypercar is scheduled for October 8th and 9th at the Paul Ricard circuit in France. This will allow not only for checking the technical characteristics but also for demonstrating the car’s design in action.

Competition in WEC

In the World Endurance Championship, Toyota Gazoo Racing will compete with rivals such as Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Peugeot in the LMH category, as well as BMW, Porsche, Cadillac, and Alpine in LMDh. Starting in 2027, teams from Genesis, McLaren, and Ford will also join the races.

The Toyota GR010 Hybrid update is taking place in an environment of increasing competition in the world of endurance racing. The growing number of participants and technological progress make every new development key to achieving success. For Toyota, returning to the top positions is not only a matter of prestige but also an opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of its innovations in real competition conditions. The success of this initiative could influence future technologies that will appear in the brand’s road models.
