A unique 1984 Ferrari 308 GT/M has been listed for auction in Monaco with an estimate of up to €2 million. This is the first of only three units ever built and played a key role in the development of the Ferrari 288 GTO and F40 models. This is reported by Classic Driver.
The car was created as a full-fledged racing prototype based on the 308 platform. It was developed by the company Michelotto, which was responsible for Ferrari’s client racing programs.
Ferrari 308 GT/M Price and Significance of the Model
The estimate is €1.5–2 million, which is equivalent to approximately UAH 64–85 million or USD 1.6–2.2 million. The model is one of the rarest in the Ferrari lineup, as only three cars were built.
The 308 GT/M is considered an important stage in the development of the brand’s hypercars. This very project preceded the appearance of the 288 GTO, and later the F40, F50, Enzo, and LaFerrari.
Racing Ferrari 308 GT/M Specifications and History
The model received a 3.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 with Bosch fuel injection. Power was increased to approximately 370 hp. The engine was mounted longitudinally in a tubular chassis.
The car’s weight is about 840 kg thanks to a carbon fiber and Kevlar body. The suspension is double wishbone, and the brakes are ventilated Brembo discs.
During tests at the Fiorano circuit, this particular example posted faster lap times than the Ferrari 288 GTO, 512 BB/LM, and even the F40.
The car has a racing history: it was purchased by Belgian driver Jean Blaton, who competed with it in club races. Later, the car participated in historic series in the USA.
To this day, it is one of the few experimental racing Ferraris from the era of hypercar development that has survived.
