The return of a legend
Citroën is reviving one of its most iconic names for the modern era. After more than 35 years of dormancy, the 2 CV name returns as a small electric car, scheduled to premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October. To build anticipation ahead of the debut, Citroën has launched an interactive social media campaign with prizes.
Games and prizes
The new 2 CV campaign is inspired by a French board game. Five challenges will appear on Instagram ahead of the premiere. The first was published a few weeks ago: it simply asked followers how many horsepower the first 2 CV had. There were seven winners, each receiving a branded Citroën edition of Monopoly.
The second challenge was slightly more difficult, though for 2 CV fans it still seemed easy. This time Citroën recreated the sounds of four different cars online, and players had to guess which one belonged to the 2 CV. The French brand is again selecting seven winners, each of whom will receive a 2 CV cap.
Among the other prizes announced for future games are a travel suitcase, a portable Bluetooth speaker, and a bright red Citroën drinks bottle.
What to expect from the new 2 CV?

As for the new 2 CV itself, the single teaser image shows that it will have a small footprint like the original, with a curved roofline and expressive front and rear fenders. There will also be LED headlights mounted above the bumper and a fairly spacious interior.

The technical specifications remain a mystery. It is known that the car to be presented at the Paris Motor Show will be a concept, and the production model will go on sale in 2028 at a price of less than €15,000 (about $17,300).

This is an ambitious move for Citroën, as the return of the legendary model in electric form could become a major event in the budget electric car market. In addition, the gamified social media marketing campaign allows the brand to engage both longtime fans and a new audience. If the production version retains the spirit of the original and offers modern technology at an affordable price, the new 2 CV could become a bestseller. At the same time, given the growing competition in the small electric car segment, Citroën will need to find a balance between retro charm and practicality.
