Škoda Academy Students Create Unique Pickup Based on the Superb

Škoda Academy students have presented the unique L&K 130 pickup, created based on the Superb model. It is intended for teams participating in bicycle races and is named after the brand’s founders — Laurin and Klement, who started by manufacturing bicycles 130 years ago.

A feature of the concept is its redesigned rear compartment. The cargo space is small, but with the help of a special mechanism, it expands, allowing for easy loading of two bicycles. An additional roof rack allows for transporting another bicycle.

Technical Features and Design

To create the cargo compartment, the students modified the body, installed a new rear window, and changed the door design. On the passenger side, the doors now slide open, making loading more convenient.

Externally, the car is adorned with 19-inch Supernova alloy wheels, an illuminated radiator grille, and branded logos. The color scheme includes gold, red, black, and white.

The interior features thematic trim, “130 years” embroidery on the seats, additional screens for displaying data during races, and a radio for communication between team members. Convenient storage systems are also provided, including a water cooler.

Technical Specifications

Under the hood is a hybrid powertrain from the Superb Combi iV: a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and an electric motor with a combined output of 201 hp. The 25.7 kWh battery provides a range of over 100 km in electric mode, although this figure may be lower due to the pickup’s additional weight.

Developing the concept took over 2000 hours. The car will be presented at the Tour de France in July 2025. This is the tenth project from Škoda Academy after concepts such as the Citijet, Funstar, and others. In 2021 and 2024, students missed presentations due to the pandemic and workshop modernization.

This project demonstrates how a traditional station wagon can be transformed into a specialized vehicle for specific needs. The use of hybrid technology underscores Škoda’s focus on modern trends, and the attention to detail in the design makes the L&K 130 a true show car.
