New electric crossover Skoda Peaq: preparation for the premiere
Skoda is preparing for the official presentation of the new electric crossover Peaq, which will take place on June 23. Ahead of this event, the manufacturer shared details about the testing and development of the model. In particular, prototypes underwent testing in extreme conditions, including the Arizona desert in the USA.
Large-scale testing around the world
Camouflaged versions of the electric flagship covered over 932,057 miles (1.5 million km) during tests in Africa, Europe, and North America. This included testing in cold conditions 124 miles (200 km) north of the Arctic Circle, where temperatures can drop to -40°F (-40°C).
In such freezing conditions, engineers paid special attention to efficient and rapid cabin heating. They also focused on quick window defrosting and ensuring optimal traction and stability on snow and ice.
Testing in the desert and off-road
On the other hand, Skoda sent prototypes to the desert to subject them to “intense sunlight for 12 months to assess paint quality and durability of plastic components.” Testing in hot conditions was also critically important for checking the braking system and cooling systems, as well as for ensuring quick cabin cooling with the air conditioner.
Engineers also drove thousands of miles on dusty and gravel roads to check “cabin sealing and the resistance of metal and plastic body parts to stone impacts.”
Technical specifications and powertrain options
Recall that the Peaq is built on the MEB+ platform and offers seating for up to seven passengers. Three powertrains will be available:
Thus, the new Skoda Peaq will become a serious competitor in the large electric crossover market, offering significant range and diverse powertrain options. The model’s premiere is coming very soon, and it promises to be an important event for the company, demonstrating its ambitions in the electric vehicle segment. Special attention should be paid to the all-wheel drive 90x version, which may appeal to those seeking a combination of power and practicality.
