How Many New Cars of Russian Origin Were Purchased in Ukraine in 2021

Statistics show that there is a demand for cars from Russian kits in Ukraine. Certainly, it is not as high as before 2013, but hundreds of Ukrainians spent their money on purchasing Lada cars and more.

As TopGir already wrote, last year in Ukraine (at ZAZ) the production of Lada and Renault brand models (model Arkana) was established from car kits of Russian origin. As of February 2021, Ukrainians bought more than 700 new ‘Russian’ cars (Lada and Renault Arkana). Did the demand for them increase or decrease in 2021?

Unfortunately (for some, fortunately, and for some, it doesn’t matter at all), in 2021, sales figures for new cars from Russian kits in Ukraine cannot be called insignificant. Softly speaking. It is difficult to count how much sales increased compared to 2020 (the reason is simple – production started in the second half of the year), but in the past year, Ukrainians bought a significant number of cars of ‘Russian’ origin, assembled in Zaporizhia by the large-unit assembly method.

Currently, in Ukraine, you can buy 4 models of Lada. More precisely, these models are currently on the distributor’s website:

  • Lada Granta
  • Lada Vesta
  • Lada Vesta SW Cross
  • Niva Travel

Prices range from 240,000 UAH to 385,000 UAH. Incidentally, as even Russian media have repeatedly written, the cost of Lada cars in Ukraine is significantly higher than in Russia. However, the Renault Arkana coupe-cross is, on the contrary, cheaper here. In Russia, the price starts from 1,329,000 ₽ (488,000 UAH), in Ukraine – from 438,000 UAH. By the way, despite currency fluctuations, etc., at the start of sales, the Renault Arkana in Ukraine cost from 468,000 UAH. It seems that one side (or both) had to lower the price to make the model’s cost more attractive compared to competitors.

Anyway, but in 2021, 463 Renault Arkana were sold. This is not a lot, but not a little either. As for Lada, the situation is as follows:

  • 439 LADA NIVA
  • 334 LADA VESTA CROSS
  • 319 LADA VESTA
  • 303 LADA GRANTA
  • 158 LADA LARGUS
  • 149 LADA XRAY
  • 168 LADA GRANTA

In total, we have almost 1900 Lada cars. That is, almost 160 cars per month. For AvtoVAZ, this is practically ‘peanuts’, since in their home country the average monthly sales figure for Lada is just under 20,000 units. Yes, for AvtoZAZ, we think these are not particularly high figures, since in 2010, the Zaporizhia automobile plant sold 15,000 to 20,000 ZAZ Chance cars (our Lanos, only for Russia) just to Russia in one year, not counting the domestic market. In 2013, for obvious reasons, supplies were suspended.
