In 2019, there were 160,675 road accidents in Ukraine. This statistic is provided by the Deputy Chief of the Patrol Police Alexey Biloshitsky.In 26,052 accidents, there were casualties, with a third of them being pedestrians. Overall, last year 3454 people died on Ukraine’s roads, and 32,736 were injured with varying degrees of severity.Compared to 2018, the situation worsened (in 2018, 3350 Ukrainians died). The peak of road accidents occurred in December, and the most people died on the roads in September.
The main causes of road accidents in Ukraine (with victims) are named:
1 Exceeding the safe speed (34%);2 Violation of maneuvering rules (22%);3 Violation of crossing intersection rules (8%);4 Failure to maintain distance (8%);5 Violation of pedestrian crossing rules (6%).And 5189 accidents were committed by drunk drivers. In them, 106 people died, and 1616 were injured.
The most common types of road accidents in 2019:
1 Collision (63%);2 Hitting a stationary vehicle (15%);3 Hitting an obstacle (12%).To avoid an accident, the Patrol Police recommend drivers to always stay attentive, maintain a safe distance, check the vehicle’s condition before the trip, and not to get distracted by the phone or other external irritants.
