Investigators Probe Nissan After Driver’s Airbag Explosion

Danger for Nissan Cube Drivers Due to Airbag Problems

The Nissan Cube, one of the most unusual cars on American roads, has attracted the attention of regulators due to safety issues. After the airbag module completely detached from the steering wheel during an accident, an investigation was launched into the potential threat to drivers.

According to reports, during an accident involving a 2009 Cube, the airbag did not deploy properly. Instead, the module flew into the cabin, hitting the driver, and then landed on the back seat. Although the airbag itself and the inflator remained in place, the module’s mounting proved to be unreliable.

Problem with Takata Components

All 2009 Cube models are equipped with PSDI-X inflators from Takata, which have caused problems in the past due to propellant degradation. However, in this case, regulators believe the cause lies in the weld seam between the inflator’s cover and its housing.

Nissan has already collected components for further analysis but has not yet announced a recall. Due to limited data on VIN codes for vehicles of this era, it is difficult for regulators to identify all potentially dangerous models. The investigation is ongoing, and if the problem proves to be more serious, an official recall is possible.

This situation once again highlights the importance of thorough monitoring of vehicle safety, especially for those using components from manufacturers with a controversial reputation. Cube owners should be especially attentive to any updates from the manufacturer regarding this issue.
