After the departure of Renault (and not only), attempts to substitute imports “by their own efforts” continue in Russia. At the moment, there is a plan to establish the production of the Duster (possibly even under the Lada brand), although even at AvtoVAZ they consider the transfer of crossover production to the capacities of the Togliatti plant as a “distant prospect, requiring substantial financial and technological investments.”
However, if this happens, the Russian Duster will lose the 1.6-liter “Renault” H4M engine, because this unit cannot be completely localized. Therefore, the localized Duster is planned to be equipped with a 1.8-liter VAZ-21179 engine. Simply put, this is a modified engine from the Priora. Well, that suits us just fine…
