In the United Kingdom, a 1985 Ford Escort RS Turbo S1 was put on display at the Silverstone auto show. The charged hatchback belonged to Princess Diana.

This is one of the three Ford Escorts owned by Lady Di at different times – she liked this model. She drove an Escort convertible, but due to excessive attention from the public, she switched to the limited hot-hatch RS Turbo S1.

By the way, almost all of the 8600 Ford Escort RS Turbo S1s produced were white, but Princess Diana wanted a black car. Of course, they couldn’t refuse her.

The Ford Escort RS Turbo S1 differs from the standard model with its body kit, rear spoiler, and 15-inch wheels. Recaro sports seats are installed in the interior.

The hatchback is equipped with a 1.6-liter 132-horsepower turbo engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. Nowadays, this isn’t impressive, but for its time it was quite decent – the VW Golf GTI was less powerful then. It accelerates to a hundred in 8.6 seconds, and its top speed is 208 km/h.

Princess Diana drove the Ford Escort for three years, and then it changed hands and was even given away in a competition. The car is well-preserved, and its mileage is only 40,000 km.
