The exclusive Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, which belonged to the former Dynamo Kyiv and Ukraine national team footballer Andriy Husin, ended up in Europe after his death and was sold in Poland with a different origin story. Auto blogger Roma Urraco writes about this.
About two years ago, a Ukrainian collector was looking for a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren with Ukrainian registration. By various estimates, there were only 10-12 such supercars in Ukraine, so the search quickly moved to the European market.
A silver SLR with a non-standard interior appeared on the Polish platform Otomoto. The interior was trimmed with red Alcantara, and decorative elements in the form of silver balls with the number 14 were placed on the sills and seats.
Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren of Andriy Husin was identified by VIN code
The car was being sold by a Polish Mercedes-Benz dealer. According to the seller, the supercar supposedly belonged to former Spanish national team footballer Xabi Alonso, who also played under number 14.
After checking the VIN code, it turned out that the car still had an active Ukrainian registration. This made it possible to establish the real owner of the car. It turned out to be Andriy Husin, who was a well-known connoisseur of sports cars.
The footballer purchased the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren during his time playing for Dynamo. Later, the supercar received an individually customized interior according to the owner’s wishes.
The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren supercar was sold to Europe after the footballer’s death
Andriy Husin tragically died in 2014 at the Chaika race track. After this, his wife decided to sell the car, after which the car ended up abroad.
Later, Polish sellers began using the story about the supercar supposedly belonging to Xabi Alonso. After receiving information about the Ukrainian origin of the car, the dealer, according to the author of the story, was surprised. A few days later, the ad for the sale of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren disappeared, and the sellers reported that the car had already been sold.
