An old 1975 Range Rover was sold at auction in the UK. A real bidding war ensued, and the Range Rover’s price reached £101,250 ($133,000).
Of course, first-generation Range Rovers are highly valued now, but for that money, you could get a new Porsche 911 (or a 2018 Range Rover). As you might have guessed, this car has a secret.
The fact is, the SUV was specially built for the British royal family. It was delivered to the Windsor Castle garage and was actively used by the Duke of Edinburgh Philip (Elizabeth II’s spouse), as well as Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
The Range Rover is equipped with a 3.5-liter V8 engine producing 130 hp and a manual transmission. The features include a luxurious leather interior, a radio, and air conditioning, with a custom-ordered sliding roof.
The SUV’s mileage is just under 100,000 km. It was in a dilapidated state but recently underwent a major restoration, costing almost $80,000.
