In the USA, a very rare 1965 Ford GT40 Roadster was auctioned at Mecum. They plan to fetch between 7.5 to 10 million dollars for the unique Ford sports car – the price of three Bugatti Chirons.
The legendary Ford GT40 became famous for defeating Ferrari at Le Mans (a story depicted in the movie “Ford v Ferrari”). However, most of the cars were coupes, with only a couple of roadsters ever made.
The sports car is equipped with a 4.7-liter V8 from a Ford Mustang, with increased power to 390 hp and a 5-speed ZF manual transmission. The top speed exceeds 300 km/h.
The Ford GT40 Roadster started at the 1965 Le Mans, but retired after only 11 laps due to a malfunction. After that, the car changed hands several times before ending up in the collection of the owner of the Mecum auction house.
It was recently restored to its original condition.
