Stellantis May Resume Production of This Fiat Family Model

Stellantis Prepares a Large-Scale Exhibition at the Brussels Auto Show

The Stellantis group will present a total of 62 cars from 11 of its brands at the Brussels Motor Show, which will take place from January 9 to 18. Among all the novelties, a new multi-functional model from Fiat, aimed at family buyers, attracts special attention.

World Premieres and European Debuts

The exhibition will feature several important premieres. The global audience will see the updated Opel Astra (in hatchback and station wagon bodies) and the Peugeot 408 fastback for the first time. Also, three new models will be presented to the European public: the electric Leapmotor B03X, the commercial Fiat Professional Tris, and the family Fiat Qubo L.

The latter is positioned as

a versatile family car, also available in a 7-seat version and with a diesel engine. Created to provide space and flexibility, with a touch of joy for modern families.

Legacy and New Life for the Qubo Name

The original Fiat Qubo, which was the passenger version of the small commercial Fiat Fiorino, was produced from 2008 to 2020. Given this history, it is unlikely that this is a full-fledged new generation of the old model. Most likely, the brand used a well-known name for a completely new product.

What is Hidden Behind the Name Qubo L?

The most likely candidate is the passenger version of the Fiat Doblo Maxi model, which is already sold in markets such as Turkey and Japan. In that case, it would become the Italian equivalent of minivans like the Citroen Berlingo Multispace, Peugeot Partner/Rifter, or Toyota ProAce City Verso. All of them are built on the EMP2 platform.

These cars are offered in two wheelbase variants: the 5-seat version is about 4.4 meters long, and the 7-seat version is almost 4.8 meters long. Although in Europe, similar minivans have been available only with an electric powertrain since 2022, market changes may have forced Stellantis to also bring back versions with internal combustion engines.

Engines and Powertrains

Among the possible powertrain options for the Qubo L are mentioned:

Hints from the Official Teaser

Stellantis has published only one teaser with a general view of its stand. However, upon closer examination of the Fiat section in the image, one can notice a silhouette similar to the Doblo, adding weight to the theory that the Qubo L is a renamed passenger Doblo Maxi.

There is also a less likely version that the Qubo L could turn out to be a version of the seven-seat Opel Frontera or Citroen C3 Aircross crossovers under the Fiat brand. However, for such models, there might be another place in the Fiat lineup, for example, in future extended versions of the Panda model.

Awaiting the Unveiling of Mysteries

All this information remains at the level of assumptions and analysis. The final answer to the question of what the Fiat Qubo L really is will be received on January 9, when the official presentation takes place at the Brussels Auto Show.

The appearance of a new Fiat family model at this time is very timely. The market needs practical, affordable, and spacious cars, especially for large families. The return of a diesel variant may be aimed at buyers who frequently travel long distances, while the electric version will meet the requirements of cities with strict environmental standards. The success of the Qubo L will depend on its final price, equipment, and how successfully Fiat can combine the practicality of a commercial model with the comfort of a family car.
