Opel introduces the Mokka GSE Rally electric rally car
Opel has unveiled a new rally version of its electric crossover, the Mokka. Named the Mokka GSE Rally, the car has been developed in accordance with the new FIA eRally5 regulations. It features a more powerful electric powertrain and specialized chassis modifications for competition use.
The rally version stands out with its bold black-gray-yellow livery, sporty bumpers, roof air intake, and alloy wheels with yellow calipers. Technical highlights include a 278 hp electric motor, a limited-slip multi-disc clutch, and a specially protected 54 kWh battery pack.
Technical features and prospects
The car’s suspension has been upgraded with Bilstein dampers, reinforced McPherson struts at the front, and modified springs on the rear axle. The interior has been fully redesigned for rally requirements—featuring a roll cage, racing seats with six-point harnesses, and the removal of most standard systems.
Opel plans to offer the Mokka GSE Rally to private teams starting in 2026, but a prototype will already be seen in action this month at the ELE Rally Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
This event will be part of the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup, which will also feature another electric rally car from the company—the Corsa Rally Electric. Meanwhile, Opel is preparing a road-going version of the Mokka GSE, which will inherit some of the design and technical solutions from the rally model. It is expected to hit the market by the end of 2025.
The development of the Mokka GSE Rally demonstrates the growing interest of manufacturers in electrifying motorsport. The new eRally5 regulations allow for competitive zero-emission vehicles, opening up prospects for the development of this direction. With its rally experience, Opel could become one of the leaders in this niche.
