Stellantis Reveals the Cause of the Electric Charger’s Autonomous Movement

Stellantis Explains the Drive by Brake Function

Stellantis has provided additional explanations regarding its Drive by Brake function, which initially caused confusion. The system is designed to prevent situations where a vehicle might unexpectedly stop in the middle of the road. It activates when a malfunction in the accelerator pedal is detected, ensuring a slow increase in speed so the driver can safely move the vehicle.

As reported, this function works not only on electric vehicles but also on models with internal combustion engines. However, Stellantis did not specify which exact cars are equipped with this system. When Drive by Brake is activated, warning icons such as “Service Engine Soon” or a key symbol appear on the instrument panel.

How the System Works

According to company representatives, the system limits torque and ensures smooth acceleration, sufficient for safe maneuvering at speeds of around 50 mph. The brakes remain fully functional during this time, so the driver can stop the car at any moment.

“In Drive by Brake mode, torque is limited and applied gradually, but it is sufficient for the vehicle to move safely if a malfunction occurs while driving,” explained Stellantis.

The function also includes the possibility of clearing the error after restarting the engine if the system does not detect the malfunction again. However, the question remains why the company does not provide drivers with clearer messages about the activation of this mode to avoid panic or misunderstandings.

Although the system is a useful safety solution, its implementation raises questions. Stellantis is currently reviewing the message format in its vehicles to make the function more understandable for drivers. At the same time, the company must ensure that information about Drive by Brake is more accessible and not hidden in technical documentation.

This story is a reminder of how modern technologies sometimes work in the “background,” not always informing the user about their actions. Drivers who encounter unclear signals on the instrument panel may feel anxious, so automakers should pay more attention to communication with customers. In the future, we may see updated notification systems that will make functions like Drive by Brake more transparent for drivers.
