Stellantis asked a racer and a gamer to rethink the hatchback, and here’s what happened

Premiere at the motor show

The Brussels Motor Show, which is once again attracting significant attention, became the platform for a series of premieres. One of the latest novelties was the Taylor made N°4 concept car.

Idea and inspiration

Despite the name, which might be associated with golf, it refers to DS Penske Formula E team driver Taylor Barnard. He was directly involved in the creation of this unique concept, whose design combines elements of motorsport and video games.

Created to promote the limited DS Performance Line Limited Edition collection, the car underwent extensive changes. At the front, one can see pixelated main headlights and recognizable LED daytime running lights reminiscent of fangs. They are complemented by a unique radiator grille with the letters “N°4” and an illuminated DS logo.

Exterior and details

Further along the sides, noticeable features include widened fenders and reduced ground clearance. The model was also equipped with minimalist mirrors and door opening handles inspired by motorsport.

Unique wheels and a massive diffuser with an integrated stop light displaying the number 77 also catch the eye. This is Barnard’s lucky number, and it can also be found on the hood. The rear is notable for its pixelated taillights and new vertical light elements.

Materials and colors

The concept has a Pure Titanium colored exterior with Liquid Titanium accents, as well as Craft Titanium elements that replace traditional carbon fiber. The model also has a Black Titanium colored roof and a split rear spoiler. These are complemented by light gold-colored details and touches of purple, which is Barnard’s favorite color.

Technical features

DS Automobiles did not reveal many technical details about the concept itself but noted that the production N°4 model offers hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric powertrains. The latter is known as the N°4 E-Tense and has an output of 210 hp (157 kW) and a WLTP range of up to 280 miles (450 km).

The N°4 model was already my favorite in the lineup, so when the brand’s design department presented me with this project, I was both excited and honored. Creating a sports car that could be my daily driver was an exciting experience. This unique piece is the result of a special collaboration, reflecting the outstanding talent of the women and men at DS Automobiles who make us dream with their new designs.

The appearance of such a concept indicates a growing trend among automakers towards personalization and the creation of unique models in collaboration with famous personalities, especially from the world of sports. This is not just a demonstration of design capabilities but also an effective marketing tool that brings the brand closer to a specific target audience. The use of video game aesthetics is also a conscious step towards youth culture, which is increasingly influencing the automotive industry. Such projects often become a testing ground for future design solutions or special editions that will appear on sale.
