Stellantis postpones the launch of hybrid-electric pickups
Stellantis is delaying the release of its hybrid-electric pickups due to declining market demand and the need to resolve technical issues. The fully electric Ram 1500 REV is now expected only in 2027, while the hybrid Ramcharger is slated for the first quarter of 2026. Initially, both models were planned for release as early as 2024, but the deadlines have been pushed back multiple times.
Reportedly, the Ramcharger delay is related to additional quality testing, as its powertrain—a combination of an electric motor, battery, and gasoline V6—is entirely new for the manufacturer. As for the 1500 REV, the reason is low demand for fully electric pickups among buyers.
“Consumer demand for half-ton BEV pickups has slowed,” explained Stellantis representatives.
What’s next?
Despite the delays, the company has not canceled the projects, unlike the heavy-duty electric pickup, which Ram abandoned last year. Additionally, the brand is preparing a series of new releases over the next year and a half, the first of which will be unveiled on June 8. Among them is a smaller-sized pickup, though it remains unclear whether it will compete with the Ford Ranger or Maverick.
Delays may cause disappointment, but they give engineers extra time to refine the technologies. The key is ensuring these vehicles remain relevant and competitive in a rapidly evolving market by the time they launch.
