Subaru Adds an Additional Battery to Its Least Impressive Off-Roader

New Hybrid Version of Subaru Rex

Subaru has introduced a new hybrid version of its compact crossover Rex, which is sold exclusively in Japan. This model is a rebadged version of the Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky. The main feature of the update is the installation of the e-Smart Hybrid powertrain, which combines a 1.2-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor.

Price and Availability

The new Rex version is available in two trim levels: G-Hybrid and Z-Hybrid. The base price starts from 2,015,000 yen (approximately $14,100), and the top version costs up to 2,608,100 yen ($18,200). Subaru plans to sell about 220 such cars per month.

This model is part of Subaru’s strategy to expand its range of more environmentally friendly cars, although it is not an entirely new development.

Although the Rex is not a revolutionary model, its updated hybrid version could be an interesting option for urban residents looking for an economical and compact car. At the same time, the lack of details about the battery leaves questions about the electric range.
