Subaru Outback in SUV Version Becomes $5,000 More Expensive

Prices and Base Equipment

Subaru has announced prices for the updated Outback, which start at $34,995. The crossover, which was previously a station wagon, now has SUV status and is offered in the Limited version for $41,715. Two engines are available with 180 hp and 260 hp.

Exterior Appearance and Design Changes

The 2026 model is a radical departure from its predecessors, transforming into an angular SUV with a large number of plastic body elements. Although the exterior may not appeal to everyone, the interior is executed in a more traditional style with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.1-inch multimedia system.

Trims and Options

The base Outback Premium version includes LED lighting, tinted windows, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Also standard are power-operated tailgate, roof rails, and acoustic windshield. For an additional $2,270, you can get navigation, a wireless smartphone charger, and a heated steering wheel.

Safety and Technologies

Standard are driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, blind-spot warning, and automatic braking when reversing. Also present are functions for automatic emergency steering, lane-keeping support, and lane departure braking.

Engines and Transmission

The base model is equipped with a 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine producing 180 hp, which is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and Symmetrical AWD all-wheel drive.

More Expensive Versions

The Outback Limited for $41,715 offers a refined exterior, a sunroof, leather interior trim, and an upgraded Harman Kardon audio system. The Touring version for $45,395 adds two-tone wheels, ventilated seats, and expanded safety features.

More Powerful Modifications

For those seeking more power, versions with a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine producing 260 hp are available. The Outback Limited XT costs $44,365, and the Touring XT – $47,995. Both have 19-inch wheels and a dual exhaust system.

Off-Road Wilderness Version

The Outback Wilderness starts at $44,995 and has a 0.8-inch increased ground clearance, a unique design, off-road tires, and improved characteristics for off-road driving.

Availability and Production

Deliveries of the 2026 Subaru Outback will begin at the end of this year, and the Wilderness version will appear in early 2026. All models will be manufactured in Japan, Gunma Prefecture.
