The Success of the Sterrato Could Inspire a New Version
Lamborghini does not seem ready to abandon the idea of off-road supercars yet. The rugged and unusual Sterrato, based on the Huracan, has found a warm reception among buyers, and the company is already hinting that a similar project could be repeated in the future. If this happens, it will most likely be based on the newer Temerario model, rather than the already discontinued V10 engine platform.
When the Sterrato appeared in 2023, it was a real surprise. A raised, off-road Lamborghini with powerful tires went beyond the brand’s usual offerings. However, the formula worked. Buyers quickly embraced the concept, and the car created its own niche alongside unusual machines like the Porsche 911 Dakar.
The success of the Sterrato was global, and for me, it was one of the things I always wanted to do, even over a decade ago
This opinion was expressed by Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann.
Future Plans and Brand Priorities
The question about the possibility of a next similar model received an answer that it cannot be ruled out, however, the immediate priority for supercars remains coupes, convertibles, and high-performance versions.
It’s always a question of resource availability. But, of course, the main focus is on the closed version, the open version, and higher performance – that’s the classic idea. At the end of the Huracan’s life cycle, we did it, and it was very exciting and successful, so we’ll see… As of today, it’s not in the plans, but never say never
Given that the Temerario model appeared less than a year and a half ago, any potential Sterrato-like version is likely not coming soon. In the near future, the release of the Spyder version of this supercar is expected, which will retain the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 hybrid from the coupe, producing a combined 907 hp.
Expectations for New Modifications
After the convertible’s release, Lamborghini will likely introduce a lighter and more powerful version, similar to the Huracan Performante or Huracan STO, whose performance could approach 950 hp. Only after that could talk begin about more experimental derivatives, such as a successor to the Sterrato.
The popularity of the Sterrato has shown that even in the exclusive supercar segment, there is demand for machines that combine high dynamic qualities with the ability to tackle light off-road terrain. This expands the traditional perception of the brand’s capabilities and opens up new niches. The success of this model has been an important signal for the entire industry, demonstrating that innovation can lie not only in increasing power but also in a non-standard reinterpretation of a car’s purpose. The coming years will show whether such an approach will become part of Lamborghini’s long-term strategy or remain a unique experiment in the brand’s history.
