The coolest supercars of the nineties are the Ferrari F50, Lamborghini Diablo, McLaren F1. But there are also less known, yet equally impressive cars. We have selected little-known supercars of the 90s.
Bugatti EB110
Everyone knows the hypercars Bugatti Veyron and Chiron, but their predecessor, the Bugatti EB110, is not as famous.
The design of the Bugatti coupe was developed by Marcello Gandini, known for his work with Lamborghini (hence the Lambo doors).
A compact 3.5-liter V12 with four turbines produced 550 hp in the standard version and 610 hp in the EB110SS. The more powerful variant accelerated to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and reached 355 km/h. A total of 139 cars were produced, one of which was bought by Michael Schumacher.
Jaguar XJR-15
The Jaguar XJR-15 supercar is not as well-known as the legendary Jaguar XJ 220. Nevertheless, it was created on the chassis of a Le Mans racing sports prototype. The Jaguar coupe weighed just over a ton as its developers actively used carbon.
Its 450 hp V12 was enough to reach 300 km/h and accelerate to a hundred in 3.1 seconds. The Jaguar XJR-15 was priced at almost a million dollars, although now you can buy a Jaguar for half that amount.
Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR
The return of Mercedes-Benz to the GT championship was celebrated with a limited series of Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR. The road version of the racing model received a 6.9-liter V12 with 612 hp. The result – 3.8 seconds to 100 km/h and a top speed of 344 km/h. Mercedes AMG produced 20 Mercedes coupes and 6 roadsters.
Nissan R390 GT1
The Nissan team also performed quite well in GT races and released the road version of the Nissan R390 GT1 in 1997.
With a 3.5-liter 550 hp twin-turbo V8, it accelerated to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and reached 354 km/h. However, only two Nissan R390 GT1 coupes were produced, as there were no buyers willing to pay a million dollars for a Nissan.
Vector M12
The Vector company spent 20 years trying to join the elite ranks of supercar manufacturers but did not succeed. Its final creation was the Vector M12 with a 5.7-liter 500 hp V12 from the Lamborghini Diablo. It was enough to accelerate to a hundred in 4.8 seconds and reach 305 km/h. Only 18 cars were produced from 1995 to 1999.
Over the decade, quite a few stunning models appeared, which are often “honest” to their owners because many lack features like power steering, ABS, or even air conditioning.
