British Army could receive new combat vehicles based on the Chevrolet Colorado
The British Army and other NATO forces may soon receive new vehicles from GM Defense – the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV), which is a modified version of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 pickup. To implement this contract, GM is collaborating with NP Aerospace, a well-known manufacturer of military equipment.
The ISV is already used by the US Army, Canadian Armed Forces, and special forces units in Europe. Now it could become part of the British Army’s updated fleet. This model is distinguished by the fact that it is 90% made up of commercial automotive components, which reduces cost and increases reliability.
Technical features
“Our goal is to provide the British Army with modern mobility solutions, leveraging GM’s experience in technology development,” stated Steve duMont, President of GM Defense.
Collaboration with NP Aerospace will allow for the integration of armor and other special systems, making the ISV even more attractive to the military. It is worth noting that this model has already proven its effectiveness in various conditions, from deserts to wooded terrain.
The use of commercial components not only reduces operating costs but also simplifies logistics – spare parts are easier to find compared to specialized military equipment. This is especially important for prolonged operations where quick repairs can be critical.
