Ford Mustang Dark Horse vs. Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing: Which One Is Faster?
Although the Ford Mustang Dark Horse and the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing are very different cars, they offer similar driving emotions for approximately the same price. The Mustang is a classic coupe with a powerful naturally aspirated V8, while the Cadillac is a four-door sedan with a turbocharged engine. But which one is faster?
The publication Edmunds conducted a U-drag race at an airbase, where both cars competed in a quarter mile, made a high-speed U-turn, and returned to the finish line. The Mustang was equipped with the optional 10-speed automatic transmission and the Handling package, and the Cadillac had the standard automatic transmission.
Race Results
In the first run, the Cadillac had a better start, despite having less power. However, the Mustang gradually caught up with its opponent, and after the U-turn, it pulled ahead thanks to better dynamics. In the second run, history repeated itself—the Cadillac started first again, but the Mustang won due to its more powerful engine.
The Mustang accelerated to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, while the Cadillac did it in 4.5. The Ford covered the quarter mile in 12.5 seconds, and the CT4-V in 12.8.
An important nuance is the tires. The Mustang was on Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS, which provide better grip than the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on the Cadillac. This could have influenced the results, but overall, Ford’s victory looks quite logical.
These races once again confirm that power is not the only factor in dynamics. Weight, aerodynamics, and suspension tuning are also important. The Mustang proved to be a more balanced car that not only accelerates quickly but also handles corners effectively.
