Yes, Gas Really Is $1.69 At One Station, As Prices Fall Under $2 In Some Areas

US Fuel Prices Hit Four-Year Low

The national average price for a gallon of gasoline in the United States has fallen to $2.94. This is the lowest figure in the last four years, continuing a trend of decreasing prices observed at the beginning of the month when the average price first dropped below three dollars.

Comparison with Last Year and Diesel Situation

Compared to the same period last year, the national average price has decreased by eight cents. However, not all news is positive: the average price for a gallon of diesel fuel is $3.674, which is higher than the $3.513 figure from a year ago.

Significant Price Differences Between States

As always, prices vary significantly depending on the state. While residents of California pay about $4.41 per gallon, in Oklahoma the average price is only $2.369, which is likely the lowest in the country. But even within individual states, there can be a wide range.

Record Low Prices in Colorado

In particular, the average price per gallon of gasoline in Colorado is $2.525. However, as reported by local media, at some gas stations fuel is selling for less than two dollars per gallon.

For example, one Exxon gas station complex in Colorado Springs is selling gasoline for $1.93 per gallon. This is not an isolated case: two more stations are offering unleaded gasoline for $1.95.

Even more impressive are the data from The Colorado Sun, according to which fuel at some stations costs only $1.69 per gallon.

Reasons for the Sharp Price Drop in Colorado

As explained by AAA, this situation is due to unique circumstances. The Suncor oil refinery in Commerce City receives most of its crude oil via pipelines from Canada. Its price is $47 per barrel, which is significantly cheaper than West Texas Intermediate crude, which costs $57.

Impact of New Gas Station Formats

Furthermore, the state is experiencing rapid growth in the number of “mega gas station complexes,” such as Buc-ee’s. According to data, these supermarkets do not need to make a profit from gasoline sales, as they have a huge assortment of food and drinks that compensate for the difference.

Such dynamics in fuel prices could have a noticeable impact on the budgets of many American families, especially ahead of the active travel period. The difference of tens of cents per gallon between states also highlights how regional factors such as taxes, logistics, and competition determine the final cost for the consumer. The drop in gasoline prices contrasts with the rise in diesel costs, which may indicate different trends in the markets for different types of fuel.
