Such refined style is something modern BMWs have already forgotten

Rare 1981 BMW with only 9.3 thousand miles

If you’re more interested in retro cars than modern technological novelties, this BMW E28 528i could be a great option. Unlike new models that start at $60,000, this 43-year-old sedan offers an authentic driving experience with history.

The car has an incredibly low mileage – only 15,000 km since its release. It is perfectly preserved and has a clean vehicle identification number (VIN) from the state of Idaho.

Car history

This BMW was initially operated in France, then moved to a collection in the Netherlands, and was imported to the USA in 2022. It was sold for $23,000 in May 2023, but the new owner performed paint correction and detailing.

As a European model, this E28 has more refined bumpers and headlights, unlike North American versions that were modified due to safety requirements.

The interior is also in excellent condition: blue fabric seats, door panels, and carpets show practically no signs of wear. After replacing the non-original Kenwood audio system with the factory one, the car became even closer to its original appearance.

Technical features

Under the hood is a 2.8-liter naturally aspirated inline six-cylinder engine producing 181 hp with 239 Nm of torque. It is paired with a five-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.

Given its collector’s condition, the new owner is unlikely to drive this BMW actively. However, with proper care, it could become a unique daily driver that stands out against modern electronics-laden models.

The car is currently listed at Bring a Trailer auction with no minimum price, making it an interesting option for classic car enthusiasts.

Despite its age, this BMW has preserved the authenticity and style rarely found in modern cars. Its history and condition make it not just a vehicle, but a true artifact of 1980s automotive culture.
