Texan Attempted to Flee Police Car in Shelby GT500, but Both Drivers Ended Up in Handcuffs

Texas Police Confiscate Powerful Ford Mustang After Racing Incident

Law enforcement officers in Harris County, Texas, had a productive night, detaining two drivers and confiscating their cars. Among them was a powerful Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. As it turned out, it was involved in a race with a high-performance Audi RS6 Avant station wagon.

Incident Circumstances

Information is still scarce, but Constable Mark Herman from Harris County Precinct 4 reported that the vehicles were stopped after they were observed “racing at high speed.” The incident occurred on the Northwest Freeway, approximately 16-32 kilometers from Houston.

Both drivers were detained for “racing on a highway,” and their cars were confiscated. Mark Herman emphasized:

Street racing is dangerous and illegal – help us keep our roads safe.

Legal Consequences

Despite the lack of case details, the Texas Transportation Code defines highway racing as a misdemeanor, typically classified as a Class B misdemeanor. Fort Worth police previously reported that this can result in a fine of up to $2,000 and/or up to six months in jail.

However, racing can be upgraded to a Class A misdemeanor if the driver has a prior conviction for a similar offense, was intoxicated, or had an open alcohol container in the passenger compartment. Under certain circumstances, it can even become a felony.

Public Reaction and Vehicle Specifications

The report of the incident caused significant resonance on social media. This is not surprising, as the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, which debuted in 2019, is the fastest and most powerful Mustang model in history. Its heart is a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine producing 760 horsepower and 846 Nm of torque.

This case clearly demonstrates how seriously law enforcement in Texas takes the problem of street racing, which poses a direct threat to the life and safety of all road users. The confiscation of such expensive and powerful cars as the Mustang Shelby GT500 or Audi RS6 is a significant blow to offenders and serves as a warning to others. Incidents like these often spark public discussion about the effectiveness of combating illegal racing and whether vehicle confiscation is an adequate measure to prevent dangerous behavior on the roads.
