Tesla Model Y independently arrived to its new owner after a half-hour trip

Tesla accomplished the first fully autonomous vehicle delivery

Tesla has demonstrated the world’s first autonomous vehicle delivery. The Model Y independently traveled about 30 minutes from the Gigafactory in Texas to the new owner’s house. The distinction of this event lies in the fact that there was no driver or remote operator in the car.

The vehicle was equipped with special robotaxi software, which was replaced with the full-fledged FSD (Supervised) autonomous driving system after delivery. This opens up new possibilities for buyers – potentially, they could receive their cars directly at home, without visiting dealerships.

There were no people in the car and no remote operators controlling it at any point. COMPLETELY autonomous! To our knowledge, this is the first fully autonomous drive without people in the car or remote control on a public road.

Despite the fact that other companies have previously tested autonomous vehicles on public roads, Tesla emphasizes the uniqueness of this event. It is particularly impressive that the Model Y successfully completed the route with detours and other obstacles without any outside assistance.

Autonomous delivery technology could radically change the car sales market. If the software update process can be fully automated, buyers will no longer have to interact with dealers or intermediaries. At the same time, questions remain regarding the safety and regulation of such operations, especially in cities with complex traffic.
