Tesla is once again using its over-the-air update technology to offer a new feature. For $2000 via the official app, you can activate the “Acceleration Boost” for the updated Model Y ‘Juniper’. This reduces the 0-60 mph acceleration time from 4.6 to 4.2 seconds. A similar update was previously available for the previous version of the Model Y and was included as standard in the Launch Edition.
This improvement is noticeable, even if the difference is less than half a second. Drivers will feel the changes, especially when overtaking or during dynamic driving. According to Tesla enthusiast Matthew Donegan-Ryan, the update adds approximately 100 hp. The Model Y now outperforms competitors such as the EX40 and significantly surpasses many other cars in its class.
This offering appeared after the limited-run Launch Edition. Currently, only the Long Range AWD version is available in the US, while the rear-wheel drive and Performance modifications are temporarily unavailable. This limits the choice for driving enthusiasts.
$2000 Update
Tesla continues its strategy of monetizing its cars’ potential through software updates. The manufacturer has long offered buyers the possibility to improve performance or range after purchase. A similar package was already available for the previous Model Y, and its popularity among customers is quite high.
However, this offer looks like a temporary solution—an interim option between the Long Range AWD and the future Performance version. It is also a way to encourage buyers during a period when the company needs to support sales.
NEWS: Tesla has introduced a paid “Acceleration Boost” update for the updated 2026 Model Y (Juniper). It adds about 100 hp and reduces the 0-60 mph acceleration time from 4.6 to 4.2 seconds. It is currently the most cost-effective option for improving performance on the market.
