Window Safety Issue in Tesla
Tesla has announced a recall of over 7,000 vehicles in Australia due to a safety issue related to the driver’s window. Unlike traditional recalls, the fix will not require a visit to a service center—owners will receive an “over-the-air” software update that can be installed at home.
Recall Details
Australia’s Federal Department of Transport reported that the automatic window protection system may malfunction, causing the window to close with excessive force even when an obstacle, such as an arm or finger, is present. This increases the risk of injury to a passenger.
The recall affects 7,301 Tesla Model Y vehicles from the 2025 model year, including all variants of this model.
Problem Resolution Process
Tesla will notify all affected owners in writing. Owners can check their software version in the ‘Controls’ > ‘Software’ menu on the information display. If version 2025.26.6 or newer is installed, the recall does not apply to their vehicle.
The fix will be implemented via a wireless update, avoiding the need to visit service centers and minimizing downtime.

Previous Cases
This is not the first time Tesla has faced a similar problem. Three years ago, the company recalled over a million cars in the US for non-compliance with safety standards regarding the closing force of side windows. At that time, the issue affected the entire model lineup, including the Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y.
Modern technology allows such issues to be resolved quickly and efficiently, making the recall process less stressful for owners. However, the recurrence of similar incidents indicates the need for continuous improvement of quality control systems, especially in the context of the growing popularity of electric vehicles. It is also important that regulators worldwide are paying increasing attention to cybersecurity and software aspects of vehicle operation.
