Tesla Acknowledges Problem in Some New Cars That May Pose Safety Risk

Problem with Seat Fasteners in Tesla

Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has announced a recall of some new Model Y and Model 3 vehicles due to potential problems with seat fasteners. According to the report, one or more bolts that secure the seatback to the base may not have been tightened sufficiently during assembly. This could lead to the appearance of play or rattling while driving.

The company learned about the problem on May 12 following a customer complaint. During inspection, it was found that the driver’s seat was missing two of the four required fasteners. According to NHTSA, such a malfunction poses a safety risk in the event of an accident.

Scale of the Problem

The recall concerns only 48 vehicles in the US, of which only 2.1% may have the defect. Among them:

As Tesla reports, the problem arose due to a change in the production process on April 2, 2025, when the system stopped automatically checking for the presence and correct torque of the fasteners. Owners of the affected vehicles will receive a recall notice on August 16, and dealers will conduct a free inspection and repair if necessary.

This case has been unusual for Tesla, which usually resolves technical issues with remote software updates. However, physical defects require a mandatory visit to a service center, which could affect consumer trust in the brand, especially considering that these are the latest models.
