Tesla Launches Robotaxi in San Francisco, but Control Remains with Humans

Tesla Begins Testing Robotaxi in San Francisco

Tesla is expanding testing of its Robotaxi service, starting a limited launch in San Francisco. Unlike in Austin, where autonomous vehicles are already operating, in California, each test vehicle will have a driver for safety. Participation in the program is currently limited to company employees, their families, and a limited circle of participants.

Although Tesla actively promotes autonomous technologies, in San Francisco it is adhering to a cautious approach. The company currently does not have a permit for fully driverless transportation, so each car is equipped with a driver. This differs from testing in Austin, where a Tesla employee is in the passenger seat.

Limitations and Future Plans

Currently, Tesla cannot offer services to the general public in California. The company has already applied to expand testing but has not yet received permission for commercial use. This indicates that the program is in its early stages of development.

Despite the limitations, Tesla continues to experiment with autonomous technologies, gradually expanding their application. It is expected that by the end of the year, the company will significantly increase the coverage of its services in the US. At the same time, regulators remain cautious, demanding additional safety measures before a full-scale launch.
