Test Drive Infiniti QX60: Premium for a Big Family

The days when large families opted for minivans are long gone. Now they have been practically replaced by large crossovers with three rows of seats – such as the Infiniti QX60. This model, by the way, has been known since 2012 (initially it was called JX35). The car we got for the test is in a hybrid version. Test Drive Infiniti QX60: Premium for a Big Family

The Infiniti QX60 crossover is over 5 meters long and weighs two tons.

The design can be said to be typical for Infiniti – with a wide grille, narrow LED headlights, and characteristic side embossing.

The curve of the rear pillars is another hallmark of the brand’s style. The abundance of chrome details also draws attention.

The interior features leather, wood, and aluminum. The instruments are divided by a color display, which, in addition to the onboard computer readings, displays graphics of the hybrid system.

There are quite a few buttons on the center panel, but they are quite large and convenient to use. The touchscreen is not small (8 inches diagonal), but the graphics and menu show that the car is already quite old. On the other hand – it’s like the Nokia 8800. So much time has passed, yet some are still chasing after this phone…

There are no issues with comfort.

The front seats are very soft. Like the steering column, they are power-adjustable, and memory settings are available. Seats have heating and ventilation, and the steering wheel rim is heated. Visibility in the big car is good, and there are also 360-degree cameras.

There is plenty of space inside the Infiniti QX60; you can almost lie down on the second row.

Additionally, the seats have horizontal adjustment. Adults can also fit on the third row, although children will be more comfortable.

Rear passengers have monitors in the front headrests, sockets, a USB port, and their own climate control unit (it is three-zone here). By the way, each row has cup holders – there are 8 of them in total.

The trunk is also huge: even in the seven-seat cabin configuration, its volume is 447 liters.

In the five-seat version, it is 1155 liters, and with the second and third rows folded, it is 2166 liters. Naturally, the trunk lid is equipped with a power lift.

Keyless entry, 20-inch wheels, a set of electronic features, rain and light sensors, a panoramic roof, navigation, Bose acoustics – it all comes with the 2020 Infiniti QX60. What is missing is an electromechanical parking brake. Instead of a handbrake, by the way, there’s a pedal – after all, the car was initially designed for the American market, and there, it is common.

The hybrid system consists of a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor. Together, they produce 250 hp and have a torque of 368 Nm. Of course, the crossover doesn’t take off from traffic lights like a hot hatch, but in principle, it has enough power and torque for sufficient dynamics. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 8.6 seconds, and the top speed is 190 km/h.

The four-cylinder is quiet, and the CVT tries to keep the revs as low as possible.

In the city, the Infiniti QX60 consumes about 12-13 l/100 km. According to the passport, it comes out to 10.7 l/100 km in the urban cycle and 7.3 l/100 km off-road. When coasting, the gasoline engine can shut down. How realistic are the claimed figures? 7.3 is complete unrealistic.

But 10± is quite possible. If you drive actively, consumption will be 15-16 liters. In general, it all depends on the driving style.

Naturally, the suspension is tuned for a comfortable ride. The suspension is very soft, so even serious potholes are absorbed smoothly.

Moreover, the underbody has good noise insulation, and the interior is generally quiet. The steering is light and not very informative. Of course, the weight of the Infiniti QX60 is felt on winding roads, and body roll is pronounced, but let’s be honest: this is not the car that makes you want to race around.

In short, the Infiniti QX60 hybrid is suitable for the role of a comfortable model for measured driving – a kind of family premium class. Prices in Ukraine start from 1.3 million UAH, and the test car in the Elite version will cost 1.5 million UAH.

That’s if you catch the promotion. And let it be not the most modern, but it is really big, comfortable like a home sofa, and friendly like a golden retriever. In general, the best friend.
