Test drive of the new Nissan X-Trail: harmony and balance in one bottle

New Nissan X Trail 2023 appeared in Ukraine in spring. Although, it should be noted, its American counterpart, the Nissan Rogue, began to be imported to us earlier. However, those who truly love the X-Trail will immediately understand that Nissan Rogue and Nissan X-Trail are like twins with fundamentally different characters and outlooks on life. Buying a new X-Trail in Ukraine is possible for a price starting from 1,235,220 hryvnias. Please note that there is also a hybrid version Nissan X-Trail e-Power. And to combine business with pleasure, I went with my family to Kamianets-Podilskyi, where there are hotels and estates with wonderful views and restaurants with affordable prices and delicious food… So, first impressions after a trip from Kyiv to Kamianets-Podilskyi. But first a sentence about appearance. Both my wife and our companion did not immediately realize that this was a Nissan X-Trail. And it’s not surprising – the new generation of this model looks bigger, more brutal, and more solid. Personally, in my opinion, it’s a combination of a beloved square X with a light taste of its predecessor. Almost half a kilometer of the way on the new X-Trail passed quite easily. No one had back pain, and none of us had to raise our voice in conversation, even at a speed of 160+ km/h (leave comments about traffic rules to yourself – I didn’t receive any fines during the journey). The sound insulation here is really good and, in my opinion, much better than its predecessor. Riding in the new X-Trail was quite comfortable and quiet both on the road and off the road. It does not force passengers to bounce on a ‘washboard’ road and at the same time holds the car quite well in turns and at high speeds. Since I drove at the maximum possible speed (as much as possible and where there were no cameras), I can say that fuel consumption turned out to be quite low – on average, 8.4 liters per 100 km. It is equipped with a turbocharged gasoline engine 1.5 VC-T MHEV. As for dynamics, according to the passport, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 9.6 seconds. If overall, for confident overtaking, the power (163 hp) is sufficient. Not to say that with a margin, but quite normal. The only thing is that you need to get used to the operation algorithm of the continuously variable transmission. But those who use this gearbox not for the first time know how to work with the gas pedal to get the maximum effect. As for off-road qualities, I did not test them, and what to test if in this case we are talking about the front-wheel-drive modification. But in terms of ground clearance, everything is decent and I did not feel any problems moving on bad roads or in nature. Moreover, this crossover received the top safety rating in EuroNCAP tests. X-Trail is known for its ability to overcome off-road terrain, and the 2023 model is no exception. The new model, like its predecessors, can have all-wheel drive and, which is also important, the ability to select the type of road and weather mode. In comparison with competitors, some versions of X-Trail may have lower fuel efficiency. Some modifications may not have very good acceleration dynamics compared to some other SUVs in this class. It cannot be said that Nissan X-Trail 2023 is expensive, but definitely not cheap. However, it is worth understanding that you are paying for technology, safety, and a spacious cabin.
