However, in recent years, VW Golf has faced stronger competition. To clarify – there are not more of them (as the crossover trend is giving signals), there are just more strong competitors, mostly French cars… Excluding the Citroen C4/Peugeot 408, which have turned into 4-door coupe crossovers, the strongest and most worthy competitors I would name the new Peugeot 308 and Opel Astra, the test of which we have already published. By the way, although Astra has a typical German character, as you know, currently it is more of a French than a German car. Furthermore, the 308 and Astra are practically relatives, sharing the same platform and more. However, in terms of ideology, these are different cars for different people… As for me, even in the charged versions, VW Golf, although always very balanced, is as boring as the Skoda Octavia or Toyota Camry. In my opinion, all these cars are made “for everyone” – without unnecessary extravagance or risky decisions. They are each in their own way fine, but anyone could be behind the wheel – an old man, a teenager in a tracksuit, or a woman in high heels or pajamas.
